About Me
About Me
I am the owner and founder of An Artistic Awakening. After years of working for the State of Alaska, and raising three amazing children, I am now ready to share with you my passion for the natural beauty that lies all around me. Being born, raised and homesteading in the heart of Alaska, really makes you see and appreciate the wonders of nature and the beauty it all holds! I have always wanted to express myself through the beauty of nature, because I believe we are connected to it somehow. So, I started making jewelry! I feel that each piece tells a story and resonates with each individual person in a different way. Through my designs I am able to capture that beauty and power that comes from the earth itself.
My business started because of my mom. A very talented poet, author and painter that saw in me, the way I wanted to express nature. My mom asked me one day if I had ever painted. I told her I hadn’t and asked me if I would like to try. So, for Christmas in 2018 she bought me my first oil paint set. I loved painting and had a knack for it! I began making and selling Alaskan art! An Artistic Awakening (named by my mom) was born! Tragedy struck in 2020, and my mom passed away. I had only painted and sold a few paintings and my desire to pick up my paint brushes passed away with her, I couldn’t grip a brush without crying.
In 2021 I married the love of my life, and we started traveling to the southwestern United States together every year. WOW, a whole new door was opened when I saw the similarities to Alaska! While geographically very different, Alaska and the Southwestern United States share some similarities, including mountainous terrain with high peaks, large expanses of wilderness, diverse wildlife populations, and a reliance on tourism due to their unique natural landscapes. While geographically distant, Alaska Native people and Southwestern Native Americans share similarities in their deep connection to the natural environment, reliance on hunting and gathering for sustenance, complex social structures based on family and tribal systems, and a strong emphasis on spiritual beliefs tied to the land and animals. With the culture of the Southwest and the culture of Alaska, my heart burst with joy! I felt at home in both places and couldn’t wait to start to share these unique and beautiful places through wearable art! Because I live in Alaska and travel to the southwest, it is my mission to bring these cultures together through my unique designs. Bringing Enchantment to the Last Frontier! I hope that you find yourself emersed in the culture and find a connection to the land in one of my designs.
Enjoy your walk with me today and every day. Stay kind, my friends.
